Laboratory of Mark A. Hardy, MD

Principal Investigator

Mark A. Hardy , MD

Background for Research focus:

Studies on immunologic research in cell mediated allograft tolerance which includes cell characterization, manipulation, culture, priming with immunodominant allopeptides and subsequent reinjection into various types of animals, including at some point man. The background requires knowledge of experimental methods, immunologic testing, transplants of donor organ and cell allografts and evaluation of graft acceptance or rejection by in vitro and in vivo testing. Special focus is on pancreativ islet transplantation in animal models and in diabetic patients who are stable with arenal allograft. Knowledge of immunosuppressive agents and their side effects is also necessary for recipient manipulation.

Main Focus of the Laboratory:

Focus on tolerance induction and clinical islet transplantation

Current Projects:

  1. Pancreatic Islet transplantation
  2. Induction of immunologic tolerance toan allografted organ
  3. Evaluation of islet isolation using differenet doses of Pulmozyme
  4. Clinical randomized studies of immunosuppressive drugs give to renal transplant recipients.
