Antibiotic Medications

Purpose	Prevents bacterial infections.
Dosage	Adults: Bactrim is available in pill form and adults will take one tablet daily. Pediatric: dosage is based on body weight.
When	If you miss a dose of any antibiotic medication, take it as soon as you can. Do not double dose.
Precautions	Some patients are unable to tolerate Bactrim and other sulfa-based medications. For those patients, the transplant team may prescribe Dapsone or Mepron. Bactrim will be taken from 3 months to 12 months depending on your immunosuppression regimen.
Common Side Effects	Rash, lowered white blood cell count, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sun sensitivity.
