The New York chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA-NY) presented the 2003 Big Apple Award for Best Brochure to the Columbia University Department of Surgery for the multimedia Surgical Innovations Report: A Physician's Resource.
The publication highlights the Department's latest advances in robotic surgery, minimal-access procedures, and research initiatives. It includes two CD-ROMs that present narrated video presentations of the central parts of 34 surgical procedures.
In his introduction to Surgical Innovations, Eric A. Rose, MD, Department Chairman, states: "We live in an era of unprecedented scientific discovery, and Columbia University's Department of Surgery is in the forefront, developing new approaches to illness that will change the face of medicine and help people live longer, fuller lives."
Surgical Innovations, produced for doctors and other medical professionals, was chosen by a panel of judges from the nation's most prestigious public relations firms.
Deborah Schwarz-McGregor, RPA, Director of the Department's Office of External Affairs, accepted the Big Apple Award at a gala luncheon at Tavern on the Green, on behalf of Dr. Rose. Ms. McGregor produced the brochure.
