Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery

Dr. Dayal received his MD from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark in 1994 and completed his internship, residency, and a vascular surgery fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College.
From 2005-2007, he was Assistant Professor of Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York, and an attending at North Shore University Hospital in, Lake Success, NY.
During 2001-2003, between his residency and fellowship, he served as Associate Director of Trauma at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in Jamaica, NY.
Dr. Dayal's clinical specialties include carotid artery disease, treatment of peripheral arterial disease, and endovenous laser therapy.
His research interests focus on clinical outcomes of carotid endarterectomy vs. stenting, clinical outcomes of peripheral interventions, and computer aided simulation for endovascular training.
- Sheldon Marc Feldman, MD, FACS

Dr. Feldman comes to Columbia from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he was Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery from 2001-2008.
Dr. Feldman served as Chief of the Appel-Venet Comprehensive Breast Service and Chief of the Division of Breast Surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City from September 2000 until joining the Columbia faculty.
A graduate of New York University Medical School, Dr. Feldman completed his internship and residency at New York University Bellevue Hospital Medical Center in 1979, serving as Executive Chief Resident from 1979-1980.
He completed a clinical fellowship in peripheral vascular surgery at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in New Jersey from 1980-1981.
He established and was physician-in-charge of Hudson Valley Surgical Associates from 1984-2000.
He was co-founder and served as medical director of the Fern Feldman Anolick Breast Center at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, NY from 1994 to 2000.
Dr. Feldman's clinical specialties include minimally invasive breast cancer surgery, mammary ductoscopy, high risk patient surveillance, and breast cancer prevention.
His research interests focus on environmental factors and breast cancer, breast endoscopy and intraductal diagnostics and treatment, sentinel node biopsy, physician-patient communication, and holistic patient-centered surgical approaches.
- Michael J. Goldstein, MD

Dr. Goldstein received his MD from Temple University in Philadelphia in 1997 and conducted his post-graduate training at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, including a research fellowship completed in 2001, a general surgery residency completed in 2003 (he served as Chief Administrative Resident from 2002-2003), and a fellowship at the Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation completed in 2005.
During 2005-2007, Dr. Goldstein was an assistant Professor of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College and Surgical Director of the Incompatible Transplant Program in the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Division of Transplantation.
His clinical specialties include abdominal organ transplantation, pediatric abdominal organ transplantation, incompatible transplantation, hepatobiliary surgery, and dialysis access surgery.
His research interests focus on clinical outcomes, expanded criteria deceased donation utilization, ischemia/reperfusion injury and regeneration, organ preservation, and surgical education.
- Felix Raymond Ortega, MD

Dr. Ortega received his MD from Cornell University Medical College in 1987, completing his general surgery residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia in 1992 and his plastic surgery residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham on 1994.
Before coming to Columbia, Dr. Ortega was the Director of Advanced Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.
He was on active duty in the United States Army from 1978-1983 and holds multiple military awards including the U.S. Army Special Forces Green Beret, the Ranger Tab, and the Master Parachutist Badge.
His clinical specialties include reconstructive surgery, aesthetic surgery, and wound healing His research interests focus on bioengineered alternative tissues.
- Rodrigo Sandoval, MD
Instructor in Clinical Surgery
Division of Abdominal Organ Transplantation
A graduate of the Central University of Ecuador Faculty of Medical Sciences in Quito, Dr. Sandoval conducted his internship at the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security Hospital, also in Quito.
He completed his general surgery residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, and completed a multi-organ transplant fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center.
Dr. Sandoval's clinical specialties include liver transplantation, laparoscopic and open hepatobiliary surgery, pancreas surgery, kidney transplantation, cross-match transplantation and laparoscopic donor nephrectomy surgery, and pediatric transplantation including kidney, liver and small bowel.
