Surgery for obesity is performed at the Columbia University Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery under the direction Marc Bessler, MD. Surgery is only part of the program. The group includes nutritionists, psychologists, psychiatrists, endocrinologists, internists, plastic surgeons, physical therapists, gastroenterologists and general surgeons, who assess each individual thoroughly and teach them how to permanently alter their lifestyles to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
