Surgeons in this division specialize in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases in the abdomen in particular, diseases of the stomach, gallbladder, spleen, small intestine, large intestine (colon), and rectum. They also perform repair of hernias, take care of patients with surgical emergencies, perform biopsies, and remove growths from different parts of the body. Many of the procedures employ minimal access (laparoscopic and endoscopic) techniques.
The broad perspective of members of this division makes them uniquely qualified to provide accurate diagnosis and individualized surgical management of common and unusual abdominal diseases.
Delivering the benefits of a major academic institution and some of the best medicine and surgery in the tri-state area, surgeons in this division perform procedures at the main Columbia University Medical Center campus and at the Allen Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian.
