3rd Year Clerkship & All Medical StudentsRequired Reading

Your basic source for reading should be Essentials of General Surgery by Peter F. Lawrence, 4th edition. Copies are loaned to you at the start of the rotation and are due back at the end of the rotation. In depth coverage is found in the standard texts, Sabiston, 17th edition, Schwartz, 8th edition, Greenfield, 4th edition, and Corson. Cameron's text is also useful. These are found in the Surgical Library in Milstein and in the resident's lounge at the Allen. These are reference texts and should not be removed. Doris Leddy keeps a selection of books and manuals in her office and these can be signed out by students. You should also make use of internet searches, Pub Med and Ovid.

Although literature searches on specific topics are to be encouraged, embark on these after you have reviewed the underlying mechanisms of disease, and mastered what is in the standard textbooks.
