Welcome Letter from the GI/Endocrine Surgery Division Chief
Welcome to the Division of GI/Endocrine Surgery. Our programs are centered around a multidisciplinary team approach that makes use of the many skilled specialists at Columbia University Medical Center, as well as the diagnostic and imaging experts who pinpoint these disorders.
The Pancreas Center is committed to highly coordinated, compassionate care of patients with pancreatic cancer, as well as all disorders of the pancreas. Here, some of the best practitioners in every medical discipline collaborate to meet the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment needs of each patient.
This is why patients come to us from all over the world. Prevention, genetics and early detection of pancreatic cancer are the central focus of our pathbreaking Muzzi Mirza Pancreatic Cancer Prevention & Genetics Program, which is consistently on the leading edge of the prevention and early detection field.
Our clinicians actively participate in research and clinical trials with the goal of enhancing patient care and outcomes, including innovative adjuvant chemotherapy protocols that enable us to shrink pancreatic tumors and make them operable.
In treating disorders of the adrenal, pancreas, parathyroid, and thyroid glands, our Endocrine/Thyroid Surgery Section, with James A. Lee, MD, as its Chief, collaborates with specialists addressing the many body systems affected by endocrine disorders.
The New York Thyroid Center at Columbia, founded by the pioneering thyroid specialist Paul LoGerfo, MD, and now co-directed by Dr. Lee and Dr. Robert McConnell, is renowned for its pioneering role in thyroid cancer treatment and its longstanding tradition of multidisciplinary care for people with thyroid disorders.
The section's goal is to provide our patients with early detection of endocrine disorders, and the most advanced surgical techniques available to treat them.
This is exemplified by our institutional commitment to minimally invasive procedures.
Whenever possible, we employ minimally invasive thyroid and parathyroid surgery and laparoscopic adrenal and pancreatic surgery, so that we can offer patients the potential of minimal scarring, dramatically reduced recovery times, and a quicker return to full activity.
We look forward to putting our resources to work for you.
