The Colorectal Care Program at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center

The Colorectal Care Program at Columbia Presbyterian specializes in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting the lower gastrointestinal tract, including cancers of the colon and rectum and numerous other benign conditions.

Benign disorders may be precancerous, or warrant further evaluation to exclude cancer as a cause of symptoms. For instance, sufferers of inflammatory bowel diseases, specifically Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, are at increased risk for developing colon cancer and require earlier and more aggressive cancer screening.

Other ailments, including irritable bowel syndrome and fecal incontinence, while not life-threatening, are treated at the Colorectal Care Program to relieve symptoms and improve quality of life.

As part of the Columbia University Medical Center, we are fortunate to have some of the best practitioners in every medical discipline and can offer our patients multidisciplinary care, access to state-of-the-art equipment and surgical techniques, clinical trials of the newest therapies. To learn how all of these elements come together in the care of colorectal disease, please click here to read our Patient Experience section.
