Acute Care Surgery
Surgical Critical Care
We provide surgical care of critically ill patients at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia. These patients require a high level of monitoring. Often, unexpected or supplemental surgical intervention is required. This work demands continuous consultation with other specialists and the implementing of a plan of care for each patient. Many of our surgeons are fellowship-trained in critical care.
The Division of Acute Care Surgery will provide the leadership and faculty for a new state-of-the-art 10-bed surgical intensive care unit at the Milstein Heart Center upon its completion of in 2009.
Our goal over the next 2-3 years is to form a surgical critical care fellowship to provide post-graduate training in the discipline.
